About

Our Mission

To make the general public aware of the long-term traumatic effects of knife crime in the hope of deterring people from carrying a knife.

How We Do This

We are a team of people from all over the UK who believe in making a stand against knife crime. We bring teams of people together through positive sporting events to run in memory of Colin McGinty and use our platform to spread the #kNOwKnifeCrime message.

Our History

Colin McGinty was murdered in March 2001. He was on his way home from a night out with friends when he was stabbed in a frenzied knife attack that Merseyside Police confirmed as a terrible case of mistaken identity. His parents Ged and Pete McGinty raced to the hospital and witnessed Colin’s final hours and fight for survival. Despite emergency surgery on 15 separate stab wounds, doctors could not save him and Colin tragically died at the young age of 21.

Bernie, Colin & Marie on holiday

August 15, 2019 would’ve been Colin’s 40th birthday. Colin’s sister Laura Hughes and brothers Robert, Michael and David McGinty wanted to honour Colin’s birthday by challenging each other to complete a half marathon.

What started out as a team of the four siblings with no prior running experience has snowballed to a thriving community of over 100 people who proudly wear Colin’s picture and team t-shirts at running and sporting events across the UK and the globe!

The mixed ability team run for Colin, to keep talking about Colin’s story and the stories of so many victims of knife crime and their families. Each member has joined because they feel passionately about the cause and message. Knife crime across the UK is getting out of control and fatal stabbings across the country are such a regular occurrence we fear they are becoming normalised.

For every fatal stabbing that occurs across the country, there is a fellow family like Colin’s who continue to feel the long term traumatic effects of losing a loved one in such a senseless and needless way.

Cash4Kids is the In Memory of Colin McGinty nominated charity. We have chosen to raise money for Cash4Kids as all funds raised by our team efforts will go directly back into the local community at a grass roots level. Money raised for Cash4Kids will be directly used across community organisations that deal with preventing knife crime in young people.
